Intro Series: Modern with Robin Nasatir
November 6 - December 14
In this six-week series we will be diving into the fundamentals of modern dance technique. We will cover the basic structure of a class. You will learn modern dance vocabulary, key concepts, how to pick up movement sequences and memorize choreography. A fun, supportive environment will facilitate a positive experience. Class will include warm up, center work, floor work, traveling across the floor and phrase work. There will be time to ask questions and explore movement ideas in depth. Class will also be tailored to the specific needs and goals of the group.
This series is perfect for first-time dancers who want to learn in a small, safe, supported atmosphere and for beginning level dancers who want to revisit the fundamentals. Also great for dancers with experience in other styles who want to begin training in modern dance. The goal of this introduction is to prepare the student to transition into on-going adult drop-in beginning modern classes.
MASTER CLASS: Int/Adv Modern with Miriam Engel (Israel)
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 from 10-11:30am
In this class, we will focus on the intense physicality of the body as an instrument for exploring contemporary modern technique in a creative way. Utilizing an eclectic blend of contemporary styles, we will explore sustained, released and highly dynamic movement in a nurturing class environment. This class will be an opportunity for maximizing our technique through focus and performance, and taking space in order to make new discoveries in our bodies and going further than we thought we could go. This class will be a window into the cutting edge choreography happening in Israel today and will include repertory from Angela Dance Company. Miriam Engel is an experienced dancer, choreographer and passionate teacher. She trained at The Kibbutz Dance Company School of Dance and Performing Arts and holds a Dance Education degree from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. For five years, she was a lead dancer in Kolben Dance Company in Jerusalem, and eventually
became rehearsal director. She has performed all over Israel and abroad, including the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Ireland, Cyprus, China and Johannesburg. In 2012, she founded her own company and dance school in Jerusalem, Angela Dance Company and Merhav Mechol. As artistic director, she creates works that are characterized by a personal, colorful and unique language and design, based on both modern techniques and theatrical methods. Her work is touching delicately, though without prejudice, urgent questions of identity, individuality and legacy in an aesthetic, uncompromising manner. On stage, Miriam creates a fantastical world of physicality and emotional depth. More here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXaKnMTbYZs
